JAKARTA/GUIYANG, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Peng Jinyang, a barista from southwest China's Guizhou Province, won the champion at the 2025 World Brewers Cup in Indonesia on Saturday.
World Brewers Cup is an international coffee brewing competition to showcase the craft and skill of manual filter coffee brewing. The global competition features two rounds: compulsory and open service.
Data shows that 50 contestants from around the globe competed in the first round, with the top nine qualifying for the final.
Peng, coffee owner of the brand Captain George in Guiyang, the provincial capital of Guizhou, said that his team prepared for the competition for half a year, and set the theme of his presentation at the open service round as "the temperature in coffee."
Every step is filled with a warm story, including the cultivation of coffee in the production area, coffee roasting and processing, and the final handing-over of a cup of coffee, said Peng, adding that he hopes to showcase the cultural and humanistic care behind coffee to the world.
Notably, despite lacking a coffee production base, Guiyang, with a population of 6.6 million, boasts more than 3,000 coffee shops and has cultivated some coffee champions in China. ■
